BBB talks to Teresa Zumwald for the 2019 ‘Women of Grit’ video series
DAYTON, Ohio, May 29, 2019 – The Better Business Bureau serving Dayton & the Miami Valley has released an interview with Teresa Zumwald as part of its Women in Business Networking (WiBN) “Women of Grit” video series.
Because WiBN’s 2019 theme is Find Your Grit, WiBN is sharing stories to encourage women to grow and be resilient to get them where they want to be, explained Melissa Cutcher, the BBB’s chief business officer.
In the interview, Zumwald talks about what grit means to her, how grit has played out in her career, how she has evolved in her grit journey and some advice to other women on how they can find their grit.
“I think grit really means one thing: It is no matter what you are faced with, you are going to continue to persevere. You are (going to) continue to be determined and to keep going, no matter what happens. Because things are going to happen,” she said.
Zumwald established her own communications firm, Zumwald & Company, in 1989.
“Sometimes … you feel like you are by yourself when you are an entrepreneur,” she said. “One of the things I’ve learned over the years is you don’t have to feel alone. You can reach out to people. … It’s a lot better if you end up having a network of folks you can rely on.”
Zumwald talked about making the decision to pivot her business in 2009 to focus more on speechwriting, speech coaching and executive communications.
“If there’s something you want to do, focus on one thing, and get gritty about that one thing, whatever that is,” she advised.
“Again … you don’t have to do things by yourself. It doesn’t make you less gritty.”
