“I am Grateful to Winsupply for Giving Me My Chance at the American Dream”

FORMAT: Speech

CLIENT: Jeff Williams, president, Winsupply of Dayton

INDUSTRY: Wholesale distribution

OPPORTUNITY: To speak as a Winsupply local company president, publicly thanking Winsupply Inc. and its board chair Rick Schwartz, and telling his own American Dream story in front of his company’s employees, Winsupply Inc. employees and leaders, and community guests

EVENT: Grand Opening and Dedication of the Richard W. Schwartz Center for Innovation and the Grand Reopening of Winsupply of Dayton on Aug. 25, 2022, at the Winsupply Support Services Campus in Moraine, Ohio

CHALLENGE: To share his own American Dream story and why he is committed to participating in research and development at the Center for Innovation: bigger rewards for local owners, employees and customers.

SERVICES: Speech strategy, planning, interviewing, research, message and framework development, speechwriting, line editing; coordination with two other speeches being delivered that day

APPROACH: Build the speech around a simple, personal, American Dream story arc (the speaker moved from selling garage doors to becoming a Winsupply local company president and is now a supportive partner and participant in work at the Center for Innovation).

Use clear narrative milestones (“Ten years ago …,” “A few years later …,” “In 2020, it happened”) plus a tangible symbol (the American flag) to keep the story concrete and emotional instead of abstract.

Techniques that stand out include first‑person storytelling, contrast between initial doubts and later commitment, repeated key phrases (“a chance,” “ALL the latest innovations,” “American Dream”), and benefits framed in simple, short lines and lists.

The closing referred back to gratitude and partnership, which ties the speaker’s personal story to the broader purpose of the building and reinforces his message.
