How-to article written by Teresa Zumwald wins a 2016 APEX® award

ENGLEWOOD, Ohio, June 21, 2016 – Teresa Zumwald, owner and president of Zumwald & Company, LLC, received an APEX® 2016 Award of Excellence in the How-to Writing category for her story titled “17 Lessons Learned from the Great Recession.”

LessonswAwardThe 3,000-word story, based solely on interviews with six presidents of wholesale distribution companies located across the United States, appeared in Winsupply Inc.’s internal publication, The Spirit, in the November/December 2015 issue.

Winsupply is a leading supplier of residential and commercial construction and industrial supplies and equipment headquartered in Dayton, Ohio. The privately held company has 580 wholesaling locations in 45 states.

The six company presidents interviewed shared how they took the right actions so their companies not only stayed profitable but also emerged from the Great Recession larger and stronger than before.

APEX 2016, the 28th Annual Awards for Publication Excellence, recognizes excellence in publishing by professional communicators. APEX awards are based on excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the ability to achieve overall communications excellence.

The competition is sponsored by the editors of “Writer’s Web Watch” and the “Writing That Works” Archives published by Communications Concepts, Inc., Best Practices in Print, Web & ePublishing.

According to Concepts Editor and Publisher John De Lellis, “competition was exceptionally intense” this year since there were more than 1,600 entries. Presented were 632 Awards of Excellence in 100 subcategories within 11 major categories:

  • Social Media
  • Websites
  • Campaigns, Programs & Plans

Also presented were 86 Grand Awards honoring outstanding work in the 11 major categories.

In addition to De Lellis, the panel of judges included Kenneth J. Turtoro, marketing director at the New York agency Shain+Oringer; Christine Turner, contributing editor of the “Writing That Works” Archives; and Bill Londino, consulting editor of “Writer’s Web Watch.”
